Bike/Walk2019 is a onetime community event planned for September 9th from 9:00am – Noon beginning at TRAC. We are using this event to gain public interest of a new bike path in the northeast area of town. The project will simulate a pop-up, safe route linking 12th Ave NE, near the University of Jamestown, Jamestown High School, and Two Rivers Activity Center, to 19th St NE, near the Jamestown Reservoir Trail trailhead.
The goal of this project is to build on previous community efforts by setting up a pop-up bike path to test the community’s acceptance of a permanent multi-use path that would reduce gaps in bike path disconnectedness. Walk/Bike2019 strives to make the community of Jamestown more bike/walk friendly by closing inconsistencies and gaps in sidewalk connectivity in the NE area of town.
Pop-up bike lanes are a low-cost, temporary option for testing infrastructure in a community, such as bike lanes, sidewalks, pedestrian safety initiatives, and much more.
The lack of connecting paths is part of the Land Use and Transportation Plan which suggests improvements for the Jamestown community infrastructure. The data collected by the quick action pop-up event will be used for future grant funding initiatives and applications. A permanent path would improve connectivity in a safe, dedicated manner where residents will have increased opportunities to safely travel by bike to work and school, as well as for recreation and physical activity opportunities.
